The future of public transport is the railroad. In the center of the railroad is the Graduate School of Railway.
As nations around the world are competing to apply various railroad systems, railroads are welcoming their resurgence worldwide.
The Graduate School of Railway was jointly established by the Seoul National University of Science & Technology and the Korea Railroad Research Institute in 2000 to cultivate a highly educated key workforce to lead the takeoff towards the world’s best railroad system in the 21st century. It is now our 16th anniversary. During this period, the Graduate School of Railway was the only graduate school in the country to specialize in the area of railroads, and we have changed the existing educational environment of simply focusing on railroad function, to a research-centered educational environment. Members of our alumni are currently key leaders in the railroad field as professors, researchers, public officers, and company executives.

The enhanced status of the railroad due to the transformation to environmentally friendly transportation
During the last ten years, the railroad industry has experienced great transformation. From large scale freight transportation to high speed freight transportation, from simple freight transportation to connected freight transportation, from unit based technology to a multi-functional high-tech system, and furthermore, transformation to environmentally friendly transportation has continually increased its value. In addition, as various systems such as high-speed railroad, light rail, magnetic trains, tilting, trams, bimodal, and PRT are developed, and nations around the world are competitively applying various railroad systems, railroads are welcoming their global resurgence.
Combining cutting edge science and technology for globalization
It is common knowledge that the internationalization or strengthening of the competitiveness of the Korean railroad is reliant on cultivating a high quality railroad professional workforce to lead the qualitative changes in the railroad field. If the existing education had been focused on the functionality of each area, and operating human resources and equipment, future railroad education should be centered on convergence of cutting edge science and technology, development of integrated systems, and education and research policies and operation of railroads as an environmentally friendly and sustainable method of transportation.
Produce a high quality key workforce through the best education and research system
The Graduate School of Railway at Seoul National University of Science & Technology operates a specialized education program at the graduate level for the cultivation of a high quality key workforce and global leaders to lead the internationalization of railroads.
